This coming Sunday is the celebration of PENTECOST. After 49 days or seven weeks from the Passover, the Jewish celebration of Shavuot occurs which commemorates the 49 after leaving Egypt when Moses brought the law down from the mountain.
Christians celebrate Pentecost as the day when the Holy Spirit came to the early disciples and empowered them to preach the Resurrection with boldness and confidence. It was said that the disciples had cloven tongues of fire on their heads and they preached about Christ in foreign languages.
This Sunday, everyone is encouraged to wear something red to symbolize the fire of Pentecost. There will be great music, colorful symbols, and I hope the Holy Spirit stops by. Let's fill the church this Pentecost Sunday, May 15th at 10:00 am!
